A special note of thanks to Erik Nielsen and Mike Nelson for their help and advice with the online edition.
In the 1980s my efforts to learn Massachusetts butterflies led to a fascination with Skippers. Like many naturalists I had begun with birds. I was extremely fortunate to count among my friends and field companions a master - Dick Forster. Boys will be boys and I was always searching for something special to impress (and yes, to mildly annoy) Dick. Given his talent and experience this was a lost cause with birds. And so I was delighted to find a Milbert's Tortoiseshell in Concord and present it to Dick with the knowledge that he had never seen this species in the state. I was also pleased when I realized that I could share what I was learning about Skippers with Dick and many others. This interest also led to the purchase of my first video camera and the realization that video was an excellent learning and teaching tool for naturalists. Many people generously shared their expertise with me as well as their companionship in the field as I was chasing the Skippers. I wish to express my gratitude and to acknowledge their participation in this project.
